id café, sliema

the main road in sliema is not only one of the busiest roads in malta, it is also one of the most popular for a chat and coffee or light snack. after a busy time at the shops or the office, many clients make their way to to the id café in the hope of finding a table.

camilleriparismode's projects and design team were assigned to refurbish this popular venue. this posed quite a challenge due to the fact that within this rather compact space, a great deal of activity takes place. from a fully fledged kitchen to food counters and a number of tables, the brief was to create a venue which was both practical and attractive.

inspired by a parisian café, with its hand painted solid wood panelled facades and slightly worn out floor, the new interior is filled with hand woven bar stools by vincent sheppard in a cool grey wash colour. by creating a central island, camilleriparismode encouraged the interaction between the staff of the café and its patrons. a bar counter in grey riven slate, overlooking the street has proven very popular with patrons to enjoy a quick espresso or a more leisurely read of the newspapers.

camilleriparismode's brief also extended to the restrooms. here, beton ciré concrete paste was used for the walls and floors. solid weathered brass light fittings added the final touch.
