Natural floor coverings

Natural floor coverings are created using time-honoured skills of weaving of materials such as sisal fibre, the outer husk of the coconut known as coir, seagrass or paper. This practical type of flooring is possible for both wall-to-wall installations or for rugs which can be made to order. (e.g. Luna di Sera at Palazzo Parisio)

The main advantages of this type of flooring are its strength and durability. The natural tannins in pure sisal and coir discourage dust mites and are therefore beneficial for allergy sufferers. Another advantage for those with upper respiratory tract sensitivities is that all natural floor coverings absorb moisture from the air when it is humid and release it when the humidity drops which helps to stabilise the environment.

As with all natural products, this type of flooring will be affected by the strong Mediterranean sun and colours may fade and natural fibres may darken but that somehow adds to their character, similar to a worn leather sofa or real parquet flooring.
