D'Alfredo preserves

A Taste of Sicily - by Ivan di Forti

A quick glance at the label of these products is all it takes to realise why these products are so popular. The first thing to catch your eye is the enormous golden sun – so fundamental in the growth of Sicily’s exceptional ingredients. Tomatoes, capers, olives and artichokes grown in Sicilian soil in the warmth of the Mediterranean sun are tastier than most.

A closer look at the label will reveal that these preserves contain no additives and are prodotti artigianali, i.e. prepared by artisans who use recipes handed down through the generations. With regard to the ingredients, these are carefully selected to ensure top quality produce and great care is taken to bring out the best flavours and goodness of the product. For example, mushrooms are bottled within twelve hours of having been picked and the delicate taste of Sicilian artichokes is enhanced with lemon and herbs.

Mediterranean products, such as garlic, tomatoes and olives have for centuries been regarded as extremely healthy. Garlic, for example, has many beneficial properties and has been used since ancient times, both in the kitchens and for its medicinal properties. In fact, an Egyptian papyrus from the XVth century B.C. lists no less than twenty two medicinal uses of garlic. D’ALFREDO’s preserves of garlic cloves, sweet tomatoes and olive pate are just a few examples from this wonderful range of products.
