The Thrones for the Pope and President

31st May 2010

Officially known as ‘cathedrae,’ these thrones were designed by Carlo Schembri and hand crafted by the sculptors, Victor and Carmelo Mansueto.

Using traditional methods of craftsmanship, camilleriparismode were responsible for the painting and upholstery of the thrones.  By pure coincidence, the selection of the products deemed most suitable for the job at hand, all carried a brand name with a papal reference.

Abemus Papa – This term refers to the particular Zuber paint selected by camilleriparismode for the cathedrae.  This French company was established in 1797 and to this day produces hand printed wallpaper and fabric. ZUBER has recently introduced a range of wall and furniture paints, with colours similar to those used in their historical murals.

Oro Papa, Papavero  - These fabric names refer to the pure “Mantova’ silk velvets from the Pierre Frey line of exclusive fabrics, Fadini Borghi, which were selected by camilleriparismode for these thrones.  While Pierre Frey is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, Fadini Borghi has, since 1947, represented and promoted the traditions inherited from centuries of Italian fabric makers.
